Rockets 113, Wizards 112: James Harden drove down the lane to score the winning basket with less than one second left, capping a 35-point effort as Houston edged visiting Washington to run its season-best winning streak to seven games.
Harden made a free throw with four seconds left after Trevor Ariza was called for a foul away from the ball and the Rockets got the ball back to set up the winner. Dwight Howard recorded 24 points and 16 rebounds while Chandler Parsons added 18 points and 12 boards for Houston.
Ariza led the way with 32 points, including a career-high 10 3-pointers, and 11 rebounds but did not score in the fourth quarter for the Wizards. Nene scored 21, Bradley Beal had 20 and John Wall contributed 19 points and 14 assists for Washington, which trailed by 19 in the third quarter.
Washington trailed by as much as seven in the fourth quarter, but a basket by Kevin Seraphin and a three-point play by Wall gave the Wizards a 110-108 lead with 2:20 left. Harden’s two free throws tied it, but Wall converted a pair with four seconds left for a 112-110 lead before Harden’s heroics.
Harden scored 12 in the first quarter and poured in 11 more in the second as the Rockets fought off a Washington rally to lead 63-54 at intermission. Parsons’ basket capped a 13-0 run to give Houston an 18-point lead in the third quarter before Ariza drained six 3-pointers to pull the Wizards within 93-90 going into the final 12 minutes.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Ariza’s previous career high was seven 3-pointers against the Los Angeles Clippers last March, and he was one point short of his career high of 33 against Portland on Oct. 31, 2009. ... Houston has won 14 straight games when scoring 100 or more points. … Rockets G Jeremy Lin added 16 points and Houston won despite 26 turnovers that led to 24 points for the Wizards.
