Pacers 107, Hawks 90: Paul George collected 23 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists as host Indiana took Game 1 of their first-round playoff series from Atlanta.
George went 17-for-18 from the free throw line to lead a 30-for-34 effort from the stripe by the Pacers. George Hill added 18 points and Roy Hibbert had 16 for Indiana, which will host Game 2 of the best-of-7 set on Wednesday.
Jeff Teague recorded 21 points and seven assists and Josh Smith scored 15 as the Hawks dropped their opening postseason game for the first time since 2008 at Boston.
The Pacers used a 13-2 run in the first quarter to take the lead and did not trail again. George’s three-point play on the final possession of the first half gave Indiana a 58-50 lead at the break.
The lead swelled to as much as 77-61 after Lance Stephenson’s 3-pointer with 4:52 left in the third, and the Pacers settled for an 84-69 lead heading into the final period. Atlanta pulled to within eight points early in the fourth before Indiana used a 12-4 burst to put the game away.
GAME NOTEBOOK: George’s triple-double was the second in postseason franchise history for the Pacers (Mark Jackson in 1998). … The Pacers dominated the glass, 48-32. … The Hawks shot 50 percent from the field but attempted 20 fewer free throws and committed two more turnovers than Indiana.
