Kings 94, Warriors 92: DeMarcus Cousins stayed out of foul trouble and the Sacramento center racked up 23 points and 15 rebounds as the Kings logged their first victory of the season by downing visiting Golden State.
Cousins, who led the league in total fouls as a rookie (257), committed just two infractions in this one. Consequently, Cousins had a double-double midway through the third quarter, and helped Sacramento build a 72-56 lead.
The Kings nearly blew that entire advantage, committing six fourth-quarter turnovers while Golden State pulled as close as 93-92 in the final minute. The Warriors had two good looks in the last 25.9 seconds, including a 3-pointer by Stephen Curry that drew iron as time expired.
Klay Thompson scored 22 points and David Lee added 20 for Golden State, which was trying to post its first 3-0 road record in 18 years. Curry and Andrew Bogut each added 12 points.
Sacramento, which came in as one of four winless teams left in the NBA, got huge efforts off the bench from Marcus Thornton (16 points) and Aaron Brooks (12). Brooks scored six straight points in the fourth period for the Kings, who won their seventh straight home opener.
GAME NOTES: Cousins did pick up his second technical of the season on a double technical with Bogut. … Golden State continues to manage the workload of Bogut, who was limited to 12 games due to injuries last season. Bogut logged just five of his 19 minutes in the first half. … Sacramento guard Tyreke Evans narrowly avoided his first scoreless game as a pro, hitting a runner with 6:40 to go in the game after missing his first eight shots from the floor. He finished with three points.
