Mario Chalmers scored 13 of his 29 points in overtime and Chris Bosh stepped up with 33 points and 14 rebounds as the visiting Miami Heat beat the Atlanta Hawks 116-109 in triple overtime on Thursday despite being without LeBron James and Dwyane Wade.
Udonis Haslem added 14 points and 11 boards and Terrel Harris grabbed 14 rebounds for the Heat, who moved to 4-0 on the road.
James (ankle) and Wade (foot) watched from the bench with minor injuries. Due to the compressed schedule, Miami elected to give its stars a day to rest.
Instead, the third member of the Big Three carried the team early and the often-maligned point guard stepped up late.
Chalmers buried a 3-pointer on an assist from Bosh to start the third overtime and put it away with a driving layup.
The Heat shook off their injury woes early by feeding Bosh. The All-Star forward helped Miami to a 54-49 lead at the break and scored seven points during a 13-5 run to begin the third to stretch it to 67-54.
That is when Atlanta woke up, holding the Heat without a field goal the rest of the frame and ending the third quarter with a 16-1 run to take the lead.
Joe Johnson had a chance to seal it at the free-throw line but split a pair with 10 seconds left, leaving the door open. Instead of fouling, the Hawks let Bosh get off a good look from beyond the arc and he buried his second 3-pointer of the season with 0.6 seconds left to send it to overtime.
