Kevin Durant hit a 3-point basket at the buzzer as the Oklahoma City Thunder remained unbeaten by posting a 104-102 victory over the visiting Dallas Mavericks on Thursday.
Durant’s electrifying basket allowed the Thunder (4-0) to defeat the team that eliminated them from the second round of last season’s playoffs.
Vince Carter hit a straight-away 3-point basket with 1.4 seconds remaining to give Dallas (0-3) a one-point lead before Durant drained the game-winning shot, capping a 30-point, 11-rebound performance.
The Mavericks are the first defending NBA champions to start 0-3 since the 1969-70 Boston Celtics lost their first four games.
Dirk Nowitzki had 29 points for Dallas, which is off to its worst start since losing the first four games of the 2006-07 campaign.
Russell Westbrook and Serge Ibaka added 16 points apiece and James Harden scored 15 for Oklahoma City, which overcame 26 turnovers by shooting 58.7 percent from the field.
Jason Terry had 16 points and Delonte West scored 15 for the Mavericks.
Durant hit a free-throw line jumper with 1:21 left to give the Thunder a 98-96 edge. The lead reached five when Westbrook made a 17-foot jumper with 46 seconds left.
Terry drained a 3-pointer for Dallas with 34.5 seconds to play and Ibaka missed two free throws with 9.7 seconds left to set up the late-game sequence.
