Kevin Durant scored 17 of his 21 points in the first half, and the Oklahoma City Thunder spoiled Blake Griffin's homecoming with a 111-88 victory over the visiting Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday night.
Griffin, who was an All-American at the University of Oklahoma, finished
with 28 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists as the Clippers (21-36) lost for
the eighth time in their last 10 games and fell to 5-22 on the road.
Jeff Green added 22 points and James Harden had 19 for the Thunder (36-19), who improved to 20-8 at home. Durant was 8 for 21 from the field, and was held to nearly eight points below his NBA-leading 28.7 points per game.
Durant, who scored 34 points in Sunday’s All Star Game, had four points during a 15-0 run that closed the first half and provided the Thunder a 62-46 edge. Oklahoma City committed only two turnovers in the half and held a 22-7 edge at the line.
Eric Bledsoe’s 3-pointer with 2:33 left in the third brought the Clippers to within 76-67, but Harden scored seven points during a 10-0 run to provide an 88-67 cushion with 8:44 to play, and the Thunder coasted home.
