James Harden's pivotal three-point play in overtime lifted the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 107-106 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday night at the Rose Garden.
Harden put the Thunder ahead for good midway through the extra period, driving to the hoop for a basket while being fouled by Marcus Camby. Harden hit the ensuing free throw, and Oklahoma City went on to hold Portland without a field goal until Armen Johnson hit a meaningless 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook each had 28 points and 11 rebounds for the Thunder (3-2), who had dropped two straight following a 2-0 start.
LaMarcus Aldridge had 22 points before fouling out and Andre Miller had
16 points and 11 assists for Portland (4-2). Brandon Roy added 19 points, but missed three shots in the closing minute of regulation, including a three-pointer at the buzzer that would have given the Blazers the win.
Camby got a rebound and found Miller underneath for a 100-98 lead with 18.4 seconds remaining. Serge Ibaka tied it with 10 seconds left for the Thunder.
Before the game, Portland center Fabricio Oberto retired because of a heart condition that causes heart palpitations. Oberto was signed as a free agent Oct. 25 as centers Greg Oden and Joel Pryzbilla heal from knee surgeries. Both are out until at least later this month and Portland will likely try to sign another center.
The Blazers also paid tribute to Maurice Lucas, who died Sunday at age 58 of bladder cancer. Lucas helped the Blazers win their only NBA title in 1977.
