Dirk Nowitzki scored 23 points and Peja Stojakovic added 18 as the host Dallas Mavericks cruised to a 118-99 victory over the shorthanded Utah Jazz on Wednesday.
Utah (31-27) lost its fifth straight game in its first contest since trading All-Star point guard Deron Williams to the New Jersey Nets earlier in the day.
Stojakovic was 7-of-9 shooting and had four of Dallas’ 10 3-pointers. He scored 10 points during a 16-5 third-quarter surge that put the Mavericks (41-16) ahead to stay.
Shawn Marion scored 16 points and Jason Kidd had 12 assists for Dallas, which won its fourth straight game.
Al Jefferson had 30 points and eight rebounds for Utah, which is 0-4 since Ty Corbin replaced Jerry Sloan as coach.
The game was tied at 63 with eight minutes left in the third quarter. Nowitzki broke the tie with a 12-foot jumper and Stojakovic scored 10 of the Mavericks’ next 14 points for a 79-68 advantage with 4:07 remaining in the quarter.
Dallas shot 58 percent from the field and led by as many as 21 points in the final quarter.
Paul Millsap scored 18 points, Andrei Kirilenko had 17 and C.J. Miles 16 for Utah.
Utah acquired point guard Devin Harris and forward Derrick Favors in the trade for Williams. Both are expected to be uniform Friday, when the Jazz play the Indiana Pacers.
