Joe Johnson and Jamal Crawford scored 19 points apiece and Josh Smith hit the tiebreaking layup in overtime as the Atlanta Hawks escaped with a 93-89 victory over the host Miami Heat on Tuesday, their seventh win in eight games.

Smith finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Hawks (28-15), who held the shorthanded Heat (30-13) to 36 percent shooting and handed them their fourth straight loss.

Atlanta used an 11-2 spurt to grab a 75-72 edge with under a minute remaining in regulation, but LeBron James drew a foul and hit two free throws, then completed a three-point play to put the Heat on top with less than a minute left.

Johnson’s runner with 25 seconds left knotted it at 77-77 and sent the game to overtime.

Whatever offense the teams lacked in regulation came out in the extra frame as James scored 10 points and tied it at 89-89 with a 3-pointer with 51 seconds left. But the Hawks would not let the Heat score again, reclaiming the lead on Smith’s layup and sealing it with two free throws by Johnson.

James started out 1-of-8 in the first quarter but finished with 34 points and 10 rebounds in his return to the lineup following a two-game absence. Dwyane Wade added 27 for Miami, which was playing without Chris Bosh due to an ankle injury.

The Heat won 21 of 22 before their current slide.
