Rookie Gleyber Torres hit the record-setting 265th home run of the season in the fourth inning for the New York Yankees, who recorded an 8-5 victory over the host Boston Red Sox on Saturday afternoon at Fenway Park.

Torres hit the homer into the right-center-field seats with two outs in the fourth inning when he drove a 1-1 fastball from Eduardo Rodriguez (12-5) into the Boston bullpen above the short right-center-field wall. Torres' drive broke the previous record set by the 1997 Seattle Mariners, who were led by Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr.'s 56 homers.

The rookie second baseman's drive gave the Yankees a 4-1 lead. It was his 24th and 20th out of the ninth spot in the lineup, giving the Yankees 20 homers out of every slot in the lineup.

Giancarlo Stanton and Greg Bird delivered RBI doubles before Torres homered as the Yankees (100-61) reached 100 wins for the first time since 2009 and 20th time in team history. Stanton later added his 38th homer leading off the seventh against Steven Wright.

Miguel Andujar added a two-run double in the fifth and set a team record for rookies with his 45th two-base hit. He broke the previous mark set by Hall of Famer Joe DiMaggio in 1936 and then hit his 46th double in the ninth.

Austin Romine chipped in an RBI single as the Yankees won for the ninth time in 12 games.

Jackie Bradley Jr. had an RBI double in the second, and Andrew Benintendi hit an RBI single in the fourth for Boston. Blake Swihart added a bases-loaded RBI groundout in the eighth, and Brock Holt hit a two-run homer in the ninth off Jonathan Holder.

New York's Domingo German started and allowed a run in 1 1/3 innings. After Stephen Tarpley recorded two outs, Lance Lynn (10-10) allowed a run in three innings. Aroldis Chapman recorded the final two outs in the ninth to notch his 32nd save.

Nathan Eovaldi started for Boston and allowed an unearned run in two innings. Rodriguez allowed three runs in two innings.

With their playoff positions secure, both teams treated the game like a spring training contest.

The Yankees rested Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez and Luke Voit. They replaced Didi Gregorius, Aaron Hicks and Torres midway through the game.

The Red Sox sat Mookie Betts and Xander Bogaerts and pulled most of their starters after a few plate appearances.
