Dodgers 8, Padres 1: Aaron Harang pitched seven shutout innings as visiting Los Angeles avoided its first three-game losing skid of the season.
Bobby Abreu tripled and doubled and scored twice and the Dodgers racked up 12 hits to split the two-game series and improve to 7-2 against San Diego this season.
Harang (3-2) gave up four hits and struck out six while beating his 2011 teammates for the first time in three attempts this season.
Abreu tripled home a run in the first inning and scored on Andre Ethier’s bloop single to right. The Dodgers increased the lead to 3-0 in the second on a sacrifice fly by Dee Gordon.
Abreu doubled in the fifth and scored when Padres center fielder Cameron Maybin misplayed Ethier’s drive to center for a two-base error. James Loney doubled into the right-center field gap later in the inning to make it 5-0.
The Dodgers tallied twice more in the seventh with A.J. Ellis and Harang plating the runs with singles.
Chris Denorfia drove in San Diego’s run with a ninth-inning single.
Padres starter Edinson Volquez (2-3) gave up five runs (three earned) and seven hits in five innings. He struck out six and walked three.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Los Angeles scored just six runs in its previous three games. … The Padres released veteran second baseman Orlando Hudson and placed shortstop Jason Bartlett (knee) on the disabled list. … Ellis went 2-for-4 and has reached base in 26 consecutive games. … San Diego left fielder James Darnell departed with a partially dislocated left shoulder in the sixth after diving for a double by Tony Gwynn Jr.
