Cubs 7, Diamondbacks 2: Bryan LaHair drove in two runs to highlight a four-run rally in the sixth as visiting Chicago snapped a seven-game losing streak and avoided a sweep.
Chris Rusin (2-3) worked five solid innings and Anthony Rizzo recorded three hits, an RBI and two runs scored for the Cubs, who were outscored 16-5 in the first two games of the series.
Cody Ransom delivered the lone RBI and rookie A.J. Pollock had a pair of hits for the Diamondbacks, who dropped to 80-79. Arizona will need to take two of three from Colorado this week to ensure back-to-back winning seasons.
Chicago was trailing, 2-1, in the sixth, when the Diamondbacks went to the bullpen. The Cubs loaded the bases on two hits and an error against Bryan Shaw (1-6) and cashed in two pitchers later, when Dave Sappelt singled in the tying run, Anthony Recker was hit by a pitch to force in the go-ahead run and LaHair capped the rally with a pinch-hit two-run single to right.
Only three of the runs for Chicago were earned, a result of three errors by the Diamondbacks. David DeJesus added a solo homer in the ninth to cap it for the Cubs.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Josh Collmenter allowed one run on six hits in five innings in the start for Arizona. … Chicago’s pitching staff had allowed at least five runs in each of the previous seven games. … The Cubs finish up with three games at Houston starting Monday while the Diamondbacks stay home to host Colorado in their final series.
