Joey Votto hit his second RBI double of the game in the 13th inning to snap a tie and lead the Cincinnati Reds to a 4-2 victory over the host Chicago Cubs on Tuesday.
The Reds' Mike Leake was one out away from a one-hitter and his first career complete game before Starlin Castro reached on an infield single and pinch-hitter Bryan LaHair followed with his first homer of the season.
Dave Sappelt, who collected three hits, led off the 13th against John Grabow (3-1) with a double and Votto followed to give Cincinnati a 3-2 edge. Three batters later, Miguel Cairo drove in Votto with a single.
Aroldis Chapman (4-1) retired all four batters he faced and Francisco Cordero struck out two in a perfect 13th for his 31st save in 36 opportunities.
Cincinnati, which squandered two chances to score earlier in the game, broke through in the sixth against Rodrigo Lopez. Sappelt led off the inning with a single and scored on a double by Votto, who crossed the plate later in the inning on a double-play grounder by Devin Mesoraco for a 2-0 lead.
