Patrick Kane set the NHL record with his 53rd shootout goal as the visiting Detroit Red Wings beat the Seattle Kraken 5-4 on Tuesday to claim their seventh consecutive win.

Kane scored with a backhanded shot off the crossbar and into the net, the lone tally in the skills competition. He passed former Chicago teammate Jonathan Toews for the top spot in shootout goals.

Lucas Raymond, Moritz Seider, Jonatan Berggren and Elmer Soderblom scored in regulation for Detroit, which has twice won seven consecutive games since Todd McLellan took over the coaching duties in late December. Cam Talbot made 23 saves through overtime, plus all three shootout attempts.

The Red Wings, who finished a perfect four-game road trip - with three wins coming in extra time - are riding a 15-3-1 run.

Shane Wright scored twice, while Matty Beniers and Chandler Stephenson replied for the Kraken, who have one win in the past five games. Joey Daccord stopped 36 shots through overtime.

Kane's record-breaking tally finished an entertaining game in which the Kraken repeatedly clawed back.

Raymond gave the Red Wings their first lead at 3:36 of the first period, when he deflected Dylan Larkin's shot. Beniers tied the clash six minutes later by blasting a one-timer from the slot.

Seider, skating in his 300th game, gave Detroit its second lead with 30 seconds remaining in the first period with a long point shot on the power play. However, Wright again pulled Seattle even at 6:29 of the second period with a needle-threading shot off the wing.

Berggren put Detroit ahead a third time at 12:07 of the second period, taking advantage of Andrew Copp's faceoff win to unload a point shot for the power-play goal.

Soderblom extended the lead to 4-2 at 3:21 of the third period with a backhand shot into an open net set by a nifty quick pass from Joe Veleno. Soderblom, who was in the minors until two weeks ago, has collected two goals and three assists in a five-game point streak.

The Kraken pushed to even the clash. Wright notched his second score of the game at 10:10 of the third period. Wright has notched three goals and four assists in a career-best six-game point streak.

Stephenson evened the count with 2:56 remaining in regulation by slipping a shot between Talbot's legs during a partial breakaway.
