Islanders 4, Stars 2: Kyle Okposo scored a pair of goals and captain John Tavares snapped a tie late in the third period as New York extended its road winning streak to seven games.

Brock Nelson also tallied while Thomas Vanek and defenseman Calvin de Haan notched two assists apiece for the Islanders, who have a season-high four straight games overall and seven of eight. Tavares added an assist and Kevin Poulin made 29 saves en route to his fifth consecutive victory.

Ray Whitney and defenseman Sergei Gonchar scored for the Stars, who have begun the new year with six straight losses. Dan Ellis turned aside 27 shots in a rare start.

Dallas got on the board at 11:45 of the first period, when Whitney received a feed from behind the net by Alex Chiasson and fired the puck past Poulin from the left faceoff circle. Gonchar doubled the lead with 1:48 left in the session, stealing the puck from Nelson above the right circle and beating Poulin for his first goal of the season.

Okposo pulled New York even, burying a shot from the right circle midway through the second before banking the puck off the left post and into the net with 4:16 remaining in the third. Tavares converted a cross-ice pass from de Haan with 1:24 to play and Nelson sealed the win with an empty-net goal in the final minute.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Islanders hadn't won seven in a row on the road since 1981. ... Stars C Tyler Seguin has gone five games without a point, matching his longest drought of the season (Nov. 21-Dec. 5). ... Tavares registered four goals and three assists in two wins over Dallas in the last seven days. ... New York, which is 3-0-0 on its six-game road trip, posted its league-leading sixth victory when trailing after two periods.
