Marian Gaborik scored the go-ahead goal and assisted on another tally as the surging New York Rangers extended their winning streak to four games by beating the host Carolina Hurricanes 5-3 on Thursday night.
Captain Ryan Callahan, Sean Avery and defensemen Ryan McDonagh and Mike Sauer added goals as New York won for the 11th time in 13 games and sent the spiraling Hurricanes to their fifth consecutive defeat.
McDonagh, Gaborik and Avery scored within a span of five minutes in the second period as the Rangers made it four wins in their last five games on Carolina's home ice and handed new Hurricanes coach Kirk Muller his second loss in as many games.
Rangers backup netminder Martin Biron turned aside 28 shots to improve to 11-4-1-2 lifetime against Carolina, which tumbled to its 12th defeat in 15 games.
Cam Ward made 22 saves in absorbing his fifth straight loss. The Hurricanes have surrendered a league-high 91 goals.
Jiri Tlusty and Jeff Skinner scored first-period goals and defenseman Derek Joslin also tallied for Carolina.
