California 70, USC 69: Tyrone Wallace drilled a game-winning 3-pointer as time expired and scored 18 points as the Golden Bears edged the visiting Trojans for their third straight win.

David Kravish had 15 points and eight rebounds while Jordan Mathews scored 12 points for Cal (14-9, 4-6 Pac-12), which led by as many as 14 points in the opening period before the Trojans rallied in the second half. Jabari Bird chipped in eight points, seven rebounds and five assists as the Golden Bears avenged a 71-57 loss to the Trojans on Jan. 7.

USC (9-13, 1-9) lost its seventh straight despite 20 points from freshman Jordan McLaughlin, who left room for Wallace’s heroics after missing one of two free throws with 4.9 seconds left. Katin Reinhardt scored 16 points, Julian Jacobs had 10 and Nikola Jovanovic collected eight points and eight rebounds for the Trojans, who fell to 3-25 in conference games over the last two years.

USC missed 13 of its first 16 shots and trailed 35-26 at the break. McLaughlin drilled a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 44-40 with just over 15 minutes remaining and the Trojans scored eight unanswered points to tie the game at 54 with just under eight minutes left.

The Trojans came in as the league’s worst shooting team but shot 50.9 percent and led 66-61 on McLaughlin’s basket with 2:04 left. The Golden Bears answered with six straight points but trailed 68-67 when Reinhardt scored with 23 seconds to play.

GAME NOTEBOOK: McLaughlin and Reinhardt were a combined 15-of-22 shooting for the Trojans, who shot 26.5 percent in Saturday’s 67-39 loss at Utah. … Kravish sat out the final 11:09 of the first half with two fouls for Cal, which forced 18 turnovers. … McLaughlin added five rebounds and three assists but turned the ball over six times.
