Washington State 64, Idaho 55: Brock Motum notched a season-high 26 points, helping the host Cougars defeat their long-time rival for the ninth straight time.
Dexter Kernich-Drew scored 15 points and D.J. Shelton had a career-high 14 as Washington State (4-3) improved to 162-106 all-time in the Battle of the Palouse, the longest-running men's college basketball rivalry west of the Mississippi River.
Stephen Madison paced Idaho (1-4) with 13 points. Center Kyle Barone started slow but finished with 11 points on 4-for-11 shooting. Barone entered the game leading the WAC in field-goal percentage.
Washington State took a lead it would not relinquish five minutes into the game, but Idaho made it interesting. The Vandals got as close as 53-51 when Mansa Habeeb sank a 3-pointer with 3:43 left, coming out of the final media timeout.
Shelton answered with a 3-pointer of his own, keying a seven-point outburst in a span of 1:58 that helped the Cougars lock up the win.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Washington State improved to 4-0 at home this season. ... Motum was whistled for a technical foul with 17:45 to go in the second half. ... Only eight players saw the floor for the Cougars.
