Langston Galloway collected 17 points and seven rebounds and C.J. Aiken added 14 and eight as St. Joseph’s rolled over visiting Penn State, 65-47, on Saturday.
Carl Jones chipped in nine points, four rebounds and four assists for the Hawks (4-2), who put the game away with a throttling defensive effort in the first half.
After surrendering 104 points in a double-overtime loss at Iona on Wednesday, St. Joe’s came out on Saturday with the focus squarely on shutting down the Nittany Lions.
A combination of defensive pressure and horrendous shooting led the Hawks to take a 33-10 lead into halftime. Penn State shot just 10.5 percent (4 of 38) before the break, including 2 of 15 from 3-point range. Star guard Tim Frazier had the toughest time, shooting 0 of 12.
St. Joe's built up a 22-0 lead in the first nine minutes. The Nittany Lions did not score until Frazier grabbed a defensive rebound and fed Ross Travis for a transition dunk.
Penn State would recover to shoot 27 percent (19 of 71) in the contest.
Frazier finished with nine points on 4-of-19 shooting and added 11 rebounds and six assists for the Nittany Lions (5-2).
