Matt Chapman homered for the second straight game and LaMonte Wade Jr. reached base six times as the visiting San Francisco Giants rallied to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-5 in 10 innings on Wednesday.
San Francisco trailed 5-0 after four innings before scoring nine unanswered runs. San Francisco tied the game with two outs in the top of the ninth inning on Wade's run-scoring single against Colin Holderman.
The Giants erupted for four runs on four hits in the 10th inning. After Patrick Bailey and Jorge Soler delivered consecutive RBI singles against Carmen Mlodzinski (0-1), Bailey scored on Brett Wisely's sacrifice fly and Luis Matos added a run-scoring single.
Soler drove in three runs and Patrick Bailey had three hits for the Giants, who bounced back from Tuesday's 7-6, 10-inning loss in the opener of the three-game series. Ryan Walker (4-2) pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the win.
Bryan Reynolds highlighted a five-run fourth inning with his second career grand slam for Pittsburgh, which was held hitless for the final six innings.
Giants starter Blake Snell was activated from the injured list and yielded four runs on four hits over 3 1/3 innings in his first start since April 19. He walked four and struck out five.
Snell pitched out of trouble in the first three innings before the Pirates loaded the bases with one out in the fourth. Snell hit Andrew McCutchen with a pitch to bring in a run and was relieved by Sean Hjelle.
Reynolds promptly deposited Hjelle's 3-2 offering into the right-field seats for his sixth home run of the season.
The Giants pushed a run across in the fifth inning when Bailey hit a leadoff double and scored on Soler's single.
Chapman cut the deficit to 5-3 with his two-run homer with one out in the sixth inning, his seventh blast of the season. Chapman is 11-for-18 with two homers and five RBIs in his last five games.
Pirates starter Jared Jones allowed three runs with three walks and five strikeouts over six innings while throwing 93 pitches.
San Francisco added a run in the eighth inning after Pirates reliever Aroldis Chapman walked three straight batters on 12 consecutive balls.
Colin Holderman replaced Chapman and struck out Bailey before Wade scored on Soler's groundout. Holderman then struck out Heliot Ramos to strand runners at second and third.
