The Arizona Diamondbacks' five-run rally in the sixth inning punctuated the end of their 13-game losing streak in a 9-2 win Sunday over the St. Louis Cardinals at Phoenix.
Arizona's losing streak was one game shy of the franchise record in 2004 and it was the longest in the major leagues since the Minnesota Twins lost 13 consecutive games in 2016.
Arizona batted through the order in the sixth, tallying five runs on four hits and two St. Louis errors.
Carson Kelly forced in Pavin Smith, who earlier singled, with the first run of the rally on a bases-loaded walk issued by Tyler Webb.
Starter Kwang Hyun Kim (1-3) was relieved by Webb at the start of the inning after allowing four runs on nine hits through the first five innings.
Consecutive RBI singles by Eduardo Escobar and Christian Walker increased the lead to 7-2 and forced the Cardinals to replace Webb with Jake Woodford with one out.
Josh Reddick greeted Woodford with another RBI single and Escobar then scored on a fielder's choice groundout by Nick Ahmed to increase the lead to 9-2.
Matt Peacock, scratched from his last scheduled start Thursday after becoming ill (non-COVID related), pitched six innings for the win. Peacock (2-1) scattered six hits and two runs while striking out six with no walks.
St. Louis, which won three of the four games in the series, took a 2-0 lead against Peacock after scoring a run in the first inning on Dylan Carlson's home run and another in the second inning on an RBI double by Andrew Knizner.
The Diamondbacks responded with a run in the bottom of the second on Tim Locastro's RBI single that scored Ahmed, who tripled before him with two outs.
Ketel Marte's 457-foot home run to center field in the third inning tied the game at 2.
His two-run single with two outs in the fourth inning put Arizona ahead 4-2. Peacock, who reached on a fielder's choice, and Reddick, who doubled to start the inning, scored the go-ahead runs on Marte's hit.
Marte went 2 for 4 with two runs and three RBIs and Reddick was 3 for 5 with a run and RBI.
