Tigers 11, Indians 4 (11): Eugenio Suarez delivered a tiebreaking two-run single and Victor Martinez added a three-run homer as visiting Detroit rallied for seven runs in the 11th inning in the finale of the four-game series.
Bryan Holaday and Andrew Romine each recorded two RBIs while Ian Kinsler collected three hits and scored twice for the Tigers, who remained one-half game ahead of Seattle for the second American League wild card and climbed within one of first-place Kansas City in the Central Division. Rajai Davis scored and drove in a run while Phil Coke (4-2) worked 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief.
Yan Gomes plated a pair of runs while Michael Brantley registered two hits and an RBI for the Indians, who fell six games behind the idle Royals and five in back of Detroit in the wild-card race. Josh Tomlin (6-9) was tagged for five runs on three hits and two walks while recording just one out in the 11th.
The Tigers pounced on Trevor Bauer early, scoring four runs on four hits and three walks in the first inning. Holaday highlighted the rally with a two-run single while Davis added an RBI base hit and Kinsler scored on a wild pitch.
Cleveland began chipping away with Gomes' sacrifice fly in the fourth and pulled within one two innings later as Lonnie Chisenhall followed Gomes' RBI groundout with a run-scoring single. Brantley forged a tie in the seventh, when he greeted reliever Blaine Hardy with a double that plated Michael Bourn, but Suarez singled with the bases loaded in the 11th and Martinez followed with his career-best 29th blast to seal the win.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Romine capped Detroit's 11th-inning uprising with a two-run single. ... Detroit RHP Max Scherzer allowed three runs - two earned - on four hits and three walks over six innings, while Bauer surrendered four runs on six hits and four walks in 5 2/3 frames. ... Indians OF Mike Aviles missed his third straight game due to whiplash and Tigers C Alex Avila sat out his second consecutive contest after taking a foul ball off the mask on Tuesday.
