Orioles 8, Rangers 3: Caleb Joseph homered and collected a career-high three RBIs while Steve Pearce and Nelson Cruz each hit first-inning solo shots as host Baltimore pounded Texas for the second straight night.
Pearce and Nick Markakis each knocked in a pair of runs while Jonathan Schoop recorded his third straight multi-hit performance and scored twice for the Orioles, who have belted seven home runs halfway through their four-game set with the Rangers while outscoring them 15-4. T.J. McFarland (1-1) – making his second career start and first this season – allowed two runs on seven hits over five frames.
Adam Rosales contributed a two-run double while Alex Rios and Rougned Odor had two hits apiece for Texas, which has lost seven in a row on the road and 11 of 13 overall. Nick Martinez (1-6) dropped his fifth consecutive decision, giving up a career high-tying eight runs (six earned) on seven hits over five innings.
Pearce went deep for the third time in two games when he launched a shot just inside the foul pole and over the outstretched glove of left fielder Shin-Soo Choo, and Cruz celebrated his 34th birthday two batters later with a liner into the Orioles’ bullpen in left-center to tie Chicago White Sox rookie Jose Abreu for the major-league lead with 26th homers. Rosales evened it in the second with his only hit of the game, but Joseph got back those runs in the bottom half with his two-run blast.
Baltimore put away the game in the fourth, when it loaded the bases with one out before Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus committed an error on Joseph's grounder. Markakis doubled home Schoop and Ryan Flaherty moments later before Pearce capped the four-run frame with a sacrifice fly.
