Mariners 3, Rangers 1: Kyle Seager had a two-run double and Hisashi Iwakuma outpitched Japanese countrymate Yu Darvish as host Seattle downed Texas to snap a three-game losing skid.
Iwakuma (2-0) allowed one run and three hits in 6 2/3 innings and struck out six in his third consecutive strong outing. Tom Wilhelmsen pitched a perfect ninth for his fourth save.
Darvish (2-1) struck out eight and allowed three hits, all coming in Seattle’s three-run first inning. Ian Kinsler homered in the fourth for the Texas run.
Raul Ibanez delivered a run-scoring single in the first and Seager capped the uprising with a two-out double just inside the first-base line. Seattle’s next hit came in the seventh against reliever Jason Frasor.
Elvis Andrus and Adrian Beltre had eighth-inning singles to put runners on the corners but the threat ended when Mariners reliever Stephen Pryor got David Murphy to sharply line out to center.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Iwakuma, who turned 32 on Friday, walked one for his only base on balls in 20 2/3 innings this season. … Kinsler and C A.J. Pierzynski each had two of Texas’ six hits. … Mariners OF Michael Morse is expected to be out three to seven days after breaking his right pinkie finger in Thursday’s game.
