Mets 1, Marlins 0 (12): Travis d’Arnaud singled up the middle to bring home the winning run with two outs in the 12th inning as New York edged visiting Miami.
The Mets loaded the bases with none out in the 12th against Zach Phillips (0-1) and - after Ryan Webb forced two fielder’s choice grounders - d’Arnaud delivered his second hit of the game. Vic Black (1-0) pitched a scoreless 12th for his first career victory as the Mets took three of four in the series.
Ed Lucas, Justin Ruggiano and Logan Morrison each collected a pair of hits for the Marlins, who have dropped eight of their last 10 contests. Miami starter Tom Koehler matched his career high by going eight innings, yielding no runs and three hits while striking out five without a walk.
New York’s Dillon Gee allowed six hits and two walks while striking out eight over the first 7 1/3 innings before leaving after a season-high 109 pitches. Five relievers followed Gee, giving up only two hits and an intentional walk.
The Mets’ streak of eight games without an error came to an end after two miscues by Daniel Murphy in the ninth inning at second base. Murphy still made a key play in the frame, throwing out pinch runner Adeiny Hechavarria at third on Lucas’ grounder.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Miami still beat New York in 11 of 19 meetings, its first season series victory over the Mets since 2010. … Mets RHP LaTroy Hawkins pitched the ninth and extended his streak of scoreless innings to nine. … Miami starts a three-game set at Philadelphia on Monday and the Mets host San Francisco to begin a three-game series Tuesday.
