Pirates 5, Marlins 4 (10): Pinch hitter Russell Martin singled home the winning run with two outs in the 10th inning and Neil Walker had three hits and two RBIs as host Pittsburgh completed a three-game sweep.

Josh Harrison led off the 10th with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored when Martin lined a shot off losing pitcher Steven Ames (0-1) down the left-field line. Jared Hughes (2-2) pitched a perfect 10th inning to earn the victory as the Pirates won their fifth straight and increased their lead to four games over St. Louis in the National League Central.

Christian Yelich went 3-for-4 with his first career home run while Placido Polanco added a pair of hits and an RBI for the Marlins, who dropped their fifth straight after holding a 4-0 lead. Ames gave up one run and four hits over 1 2/3 innings in his third major-league game.

Giancarlo Stanton belted an RBI double into the right-field corner and later scored on Polanco’s single up the middle to give Miami a 2-0 lead in the first. Jeff Mathis reached on an infield hit in the fifth and trotted home on Yelich’s opposite-field blast to left field off a 3-2 pitch to double the advantage.

Walker, who was later thrown out at the plate by Stanton from right field, and Pedro Alvarez registered RBI singles in the fifth to trim the deficit to 4-2. The Pirates loaded the bases with none out in the seventh before Walker and Gaby Sanchez delivered sacrifice flies to tie the game.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Pittsburgh All-Star CF Andrew McCutchen was scratched from the starting lineup due to discomfort in his right shoulder. He did register a pinch-hit single in the seventh, improving to 11-for-17 in his last six games. … Miami starter Jose Fernandez allowed two runs on five hits over five innings and Pittsburgh’s Gerrit Cole surrendered four runs and six hits in five frames. Cole was the first pick in the 2011 draft and Fernandez went 14th. … Pittsburgh starts a six-game road trip at Colorado and Miami visits Atlanta to begin a three-game series on Friday.
