Astros 8, Mariners 3: Chris Carter homered for the third time in two nights while Rick Ankiel and Marwin Gonzalez also went deep as visiting Houston outslugged Seattle for the second straight game.
Carter and Carlos Pena had three hits apiece as the Astros had 15 overall – eight for extra bases – while following up a 22-hit performance in Tuesday’s 16-9 win over the Mariners.
Ankiel belted a two-run homer off Blake Beavan (0-1) in Houston’s three-run second inning, Carter hit a two-run shot in the seventh and Gonzalez homered for the second time in as many games in the eighth. Kelly Shoppach and Franklin Gutierrez delivered solo shots for Seattle, which has lost six of eight games.
Astros starter Brad Peacock (1-1) gave up three runs and four hits in five innings. Beavan allowed five runs – four earned – and nine hits in 5 2/3 innings.
Gonzalez and Justin Maxwell each had two hits and J.D. Martinez added two RBIs for Houston.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Houston has scored 32 runs in its three victories and nine runs in six defeats. … Mariners RF Michael Saunders left with a strained right shoulder in the first inning after crashing into the fence to catch a drive by Houston leadoff hitter Jose Altuve. … The Astros hit eight homers over the final two games of the series after Seattle won the opener.
