Cabrera, who finished the series 7-for-13 with a pair of homers, launched a towering first-inning shot off Gee into the second deck in left field for his 42nd of the year. The Mets inched ahead on Daniel Murphy's run-scoring single in the third and D'Arnaud's shot in the fourth.
Detroit regained the lead in the sixth inning on Dirks' eighth homer, a line drive over the wall in right. The Tigers blew it open with a seven-run ninth, getting RBI singles from Victor Martinez. Omar Infante, Santiago and Matt Tuiasosopo and a bases-loaded walk by Dirks.
