Giants 6, Mets 1: Nate Schierholtz and Buster Posey hit home runs against Mets spot starter Miguel Batista, and Tim Lincecum rebounded from his rough start to the season to lead San Francisco to a win in the first game of a doubleheader.
Lincecum (1-2) had allowed 16 runs in his first three starts, but he did a nice job of working out of trouble Monday. Lincecum struck out eight and worked around four hits and five walks to hold the Mets to one run over five innings.
Batista (0-1) made a spot start to help the Mets keep their rotation in order for the rest of the week, but his brief outing put a tax on the bullpen. He went 3 2/3 innings, allowing six runs (three earned) on seven hits and three walks.
Four New York relievers combined to throw 5 1/3 scoreless innings, but the damage was done on Posey's solo homer in the first and Schierholtz's three-run blast in the fourth.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Pablo Sandoval singled in the first inning to extend his hitting streak to 15 games, the longest active streak in the National League. … Batista made his first start since throwing a two-hit shutout against Cincinnati on Sept. 28, 2011.
