Angels 12, Giants 5: Mark Trumbo ripped a bases-clearing triple to highlight a five-RBI performance and Albert Pujols belted a three-run homer as host Los Angeles slugged its way past San Francisco.
Mike Trout recorded his second four-hit effort this month and scored four runs for the Angels, who posted their ninth win in 13 outings.
Backed by the offensive explosion, C.J. Wilson (8-4) secured his fourth straight win despite laboring through 6 1/3 innings. He yielded five runs on 10 hits.
Pujols started the fireworks early by depositing an offering from Barry Zito (5-5) over the wall in left-center field. The homer was Pujols' 11th of the season - and second in three games.
Trumbo extended the advantage to 8-1 in the fourth inning with his triple to center field. He added a two-run single in the eighth to fall one RBI shy of his career high, which was set on June 10 versus Colorado.
Melky Cabrera and Joaquin Arias collected three hits apiece while Pablo Sandoval and Buster Posey had RBI singles for the Giants, who fell for the third time in four games.
Zito matched season highs by permitting eight runs and nine hits en route to his third straight loss. The veteran lasted just 3 1/3 innings.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Los Angeles pitcher Jerome Williams was released from a local hospital on Tuesday. He was admitted after experiencing trouble breathing during Monday's 5-3 loss to the Giants. Williams is expected to return to UC Irvine Medical Center on Wednesday for additional tests. ... Cabrera recorded his 100th hit in 291 plate appearances for the Giants. He is the fastest in franchise history to reach that plateau. ... Zito also allowed eight runs in an 8-5 loss to Milwaukee on May 23. He fell to 0-4 in his last five starts versus the Angels.
