Reds 6, Diamondbacks 2: Chris Heisey hit two of Cincinnati’s four home runs and the visiting Reds rallied to complete a three-game sweep.
Mat Latos (11-4) labored through 118 pitches, surrendering two runs on five hits with seven strikeouts over seven innings as the Reds increased their National League Central lead over St. Louis to eight games. The Cardinals fell 5-0 to Pittsburgh later Wednesday.
Patrick Corbin (5-6) allowed three runs over 6 1/3 innings as the Diamondbacks completed a 2-8 homestand and matched a season high with their sixth straight defeat.
Arizona grabbed an early lead in the first when Latos was called for a balk with Aaron Hill on third base. The Diamondbacks led 2-0 after Jake Elmore’s two-out RBI double in the fourth.
Corbin ran into trouble in the seventh, giving up a one-out single to Todd Frazier before Heisey hit a two-run homer above the 413 mark in left-center. After Miguel Cairo struck out, Dioner Navarro hit a solo shot to give the Reds the lead.
Cincinnati extended its lead with three runs in the eighth off Matt Albers. Drew Stubbs led off with an infield single before Brandon Phillips hit his 15th homer, and Heisey capped the scoring with a two-out blast.
The Diamondbacks were held to just six hits, including just two after Elmore's double in the fourth. Arizona dropped nine games behind NL West-leading San Francisco, which plays Wednesday evening.
