Giants 5, Reds 0: Madison Bumgarner threw a one-hitter in his first career complete game as host San Francisco posted its fourth consecutive shutout for the first time in franchise history.
Bumgarner (10-4), who had a no-hitter through five innings, walked one and struck out eight. Cincinnati recorded its lone hit when Ryan Hanigan led off the sixth with a clean single to center field.
San Francisco, which extended its streak of consecutive scoreless innings to 36, has won six of its last seven contests to move one game ahead of Los Angeles in the National League West.
Johnny Cueto (9-4) failed in his bid to win a career-best fifth straight start, giving up three runs (two earned) and six hits with four walks over six innings.
The Giants took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Angel Pagan and a throwing error by right fielder Jay Bruce that allowed Buster Posey to score. Pablo Sandoval extended the advantage in the sixth with a double off Cueto that plated Pagan.
Bumgarner singled in the seventh and scored on Gregor Blanco’s triple to deep right-center field. Ryan Theriot followed with an RBI single.
