Angels 9, Twins 0: Jered Weaver pitched the second no-hitter in the major leagues this season as Los Angeles completed a three-game home sweep of Minnesota.
Weaver (4-0) lost his bid for a perfect game on a dropped third strike in the second inning, but he did not allow another baserunner until Josh Willingham walked with two out in the seventh. He got through the eighth inning in 13 pitches and coasted through the ninth on just 10 more to complete the Angels’ 10th no-hitter and second in as many seasons. Ervin Santana had turned in the club’s most recent gem against Cleveland last July 27.
The final out was recorded on Alexi Casilla's fly to right field. Weaver struck out nine in a 121-pitch effort.
Kendrys Morales provided the only run the Angels needed with a first-inning RBI double, and his solo home run off Liam Hendriks (0-2) in the third made it 4-0. Howie Kendrick busted the game wide open with a three-run homer in the fourth inning.
Hendriks lasted just 2 1/3 innings, giving up six runs on nine hits.
Mark Trumbo drove in runs in both the second and third innings, with Erick Aybar and Peter Bourjos each adding an RBI hit.
Phil Humber of the Chicago White Sox tossed a perfect game against the Seattle Mariners on April 21.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Los Angeles won three games in a row for the first time this season ... Prior to Santana, the Angels’ last no-hitter came was a tandem job from Mark Langston and Mike Witt in 1990 ... There have been 10 no-hitters in franchise history, with four of them thrown by Nolan Ryan.
