Cardinals 2, Indians 0: Kyle Lohse pitched 7 2/3 shutout innings and Carlos Beltran hit his NL-leading 17th homer as host St. Louis evened this interleague series.
Lohse (6-1) scattered three hits, striking out four, in getting his first decision in his last six starts.
Beltran’s third-inning blast to center off Justin Masterson (2-6) traveled 410 feet. Masterson allowed one run on five hits over seven innings, but Cleveland lost for the sixth time in his last seven starts.
Indians center fielder Michael Brantley went 2-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 17 games, longest in the majors.
St. Louis won for just the sixth time in 19 all-time meetings with Cleveland since interleague play began in 1997. The Indians fell to 3-2 on their nine-game road trip.
The Cards got an eighth-inning insurance run when Shane Robinson doubled and came around on Rafael Furcal's sacrifice fly. Jason Motte earned his 11th save in 14 chances with a perfect ninth.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Brantley’s 17-game hitting streak is Cleveland’s longest since Brantley had a 19-gamer in 2010. … The Cardinals had dropped seven of 10 coming in. ... St. Louis catcher Yadier Molina was moved up to the No. 3 spot and went 1-for-3 with a walk. He was caught stealing to end the sixth, the first time he's been thrown out in six tries this season.
