Indians 7, Twins 1: Jason Kipnis hit a grand slam and Derek Lowe tossed 6 2/3 strong innings on his 39th birthday as Cleveland rolled at home.
With his team already holding a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning, Kipnis clubbed a one-out bomb to right-center field against Carl Pavano (2-5).
Lowe (7-3), who had allowed eight runs in his last trip to the mound, limited the Twins to five hits and a walk, keeping the visitors off the scoreboard until Brian Dozier singled in the lone Minnesota run with two out in the seventh inning.
Lonnie Chisenhall opened the scoring with a two-out, two-run homer off Pavano in the second inning. A two-out error by Twins third baseman Jamey Carroll in the third led to an RBI double by Michael Brantley, and Kipnis delivered the decisive blow an inning later with the first grand slam of his career.
Pavano allowed nine hits in 3 2/3 innings for the Twins, who came into the evening with a three-game winning streak. Ryan Doumit had three of Minnesota's six hits.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Indians have won 11 of the last 12 meetings between the two clubs ... Cleveland SS Asdrubal Cabrera is now 2-for-32 in his career against Pavano.
