Padres 11, Mets 5: Everth Cabrera collected four hits and Cameron Maybin had three hits - including a pair of run-scoring singles - as San Diego spoiled the opener of New York's 11-game homestand.
Will Venable had a pair of RBI doubles and Jesus Guzman and Andy Parrino added two-run hits for the Padres, who snapped a three-game losing skid with a season high in both runs (11) and hits (18).
Eric Stults (1-0) picked up the win after he allowed one run on four hits in five innings. Five relievers contributed to preserve the victory.
After the game was halted for 68 minutes by a rain delay, San Diego got out of the blocks in a hurry to start the third inning. Venable's RBI double down the left-field line evened the score at 1-1 and Maybin singled off the second-base bag to give the Padres the lead.
Guzman followed rookie Yonder Alonso's double with one of his own to give San Diego a 4-1 lead. Venable added an RBI double and Maybin tacked on a run-scoring single in the fourth inning.
David Wright belted a two-run homer and went 3-for-5 to raise his average to .405. Ike Davis added a two-run single in the eighth inning to improve to 5-for-63 at Citi Field this season.
Signed by San Diego in the 2007 draft, Jeremy Hefner (0-2) pitched well prior to the rain delay - but was undone after the game restarted. Hefner yielded six runs on nine hits in 3 2/3 innings to lose in his first major-league start.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Padres' four doubles in the third inning tied a franchise record. San Diego last accomplished the feat against Arizona on June 28, 2004. ... New York's Ronny Cedeno batted in the leadoff position for the first time since the 2010 season. He went 0-for-5.
