Marlins 8, Reds 3: Visiting Miami broke out of an offensive funk, hitting three home runs to snap a season-opening two-game losing streak.
Omar Infante, Hanley Ramirez and John Buck belted homers for the Marlins, who finally broke free offensively after scuffling for just one run on seven hits in their first two games. Miami finished with 12 hits, and Infante falling a single short of hitting for the cycle.
Giancarlo Stanton finished with three hits and three RBIs. Stanton doubled home Emilo Bonifacio in the fourth. Infante hit a leadoff homer in the fifth. After Mat Latos retired the next two hitters, a single and two walks loaded the bases for Stanton. His single to center scored Jose Reyes and Bonifacio, giving Miami a 4-2 advantage.
Ramirez snapped a 0-for-10 start to his season with a long two-run homer to center with no outs in the seventh. Buck added a two-run shot in the eighth.
Ricky Nolasco gave up a two-run homer to Joey Votto in the fourth and a solo homer to Zack Cozart in the eighth, but otherwise cruised through eight smooth innings. Nolasco allowed three runs on six hits with no walks and five strikeouts.
Mat Latos’ debut with the Reds lasted just 4 2/3 innings. He gave up four runs on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Marlins finished 3-for-3 on stolen-base attempts. … Stanton’s RBI double in the fourth gave the Marlins their first lead of the season. … Cozart finished 3-for-4, posting back-to-back multi-hit games to start year. ...
