Yankees 9, Athletics 2: Mark Teixeira homered twice and had five RBIs and Derek Jeter tied George Brett for 15th place on the career hits list as visiting New York stretched its winning streak to four.

Robinson Cano also homered and CC Sabathia (6-2) pitched seven solid innings as the Yankees won their eighth straight game in Oakland.

Teixeira went 4-for-5 and hit multiple homers for the 35th time in his career. Teixeira homered in the fourth off Bartolo Colon (4-5) to break a 2-2 tie, delivered a two-run single during New York’s three-run fifth, and hit a booming two-run shot in the ninth off reliever Graham Godfrey.

Jeter had singles in the third and fifth innings and his second hit – a bunt single – raised his career total to 3,154 to tie Brett, the former Kansas City Royals’ star.

Sabathia allowed two runs and seven hits to snap a personal two-game losing streak. He struck out four and walked two while helping Oakland suffer its fourth consecutive loss.

Cano had three hits, including the solo homer in the second to tie the game at 1-1. Jeter’s third-inning single gave New York a 2-1 lead before Oakland tied the contest in the bottom of the inning on Josh Reddick’s 13th homer of the season.

Colon gave up six runs and nine hits in six innings.
