Yankees 15, Red Sox 9: Nick Swisher and Mark Teixeira drove in six runs apiece as visiting New York erased a 9-0 deficit after five innings to hand Boston its fifth straight loss.
Teixeira homered from both sides of the plate as the Yankees scored seven runs in the seventh and seven more in the eighth to match the biggest comeback in franchise history.
Trailing 9-1 in the seventh, Swisher hit a grand slam and Teixeira delivered a three-run homer. Swisher put New York ahead
for good 10-9 with a two-run double off Alfredo Aceves (0-1) in the
eighth and Teixeira's two-run double gave the Yankees a 12-9 lead. Russell Martin followed with another two-run double and Derek Jeter's RBI infield hit capped a 14-run outburst against the Red Sox bullpen.
Felix Doubront, making his first career start against the Yankees,
allowed one run, four hits and struck out seven in six innings, and kept New York
off the scoreboard until Teixeira's solo homer in the sixth.
David Ortiz went 4-for-4 with an RBI and run scored for Boston. Ortiz, a
career .264 hitter in April, raised his average to .436.
Cody Ross hit a two-run homer and Mike Aviles had a pair of RBI singles as the Red Sox took a 7-0 lead after three innings.
New York starter Freddy Garcia lasted only 1 2/3 innings and allowed five runs and seven hits. Rafael Soriano (2-0) pitched a scoreless seventh.
The Red Sox scored twice in the first on RBI doubles by Adrian Gonzalez and Ortiz, and tacked on three more in the second, highlighted by run-scoring singles by Aviles and Dustin Pedroia. Aviles' RBI single in the third made it 7-0.
Ross' homer off David Phelps in the fifth gave Boston what seemed to be an insurmountable 9-0 lead.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Boston's Kevin Youkilis left the game in the fourth inning after he was hit just above the left knee by a pitch in the third ... The Red Sox have been outscored 46-17 during the losing streak ... Jeter went 3-for-4 and is hitting .382 ... Teixeira homered left-handed and right-handed in the same game for the 13th time in his career to extend his major league record ... Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine tipped his hat to the crowd as he was booed loudly following the final pitching change of the eighth.
