Orioles 5, Braves 0: Jason Hammel took a no-hitter into the seventh and Brian Roberts drove in three runs as visiting Baltimore evened the interleague series.
Hammel (7-2) went the distance, allowing one hit and fanning eight, to beat the Braves for the first time in six tries. The Orioles have won six of their last seven games.
Atlanta’s Brandon Beachy, who leads the major leagues with a 2.00 ERA, left after 3 2/3 hitless innings with a recurrence of elbow soreness.
Anthony Varvaro relieved him and walked two batters to load the bases before giving up Mark Reynolds’ two-run single on an 0-2 pitch. In the fifth, Roberts delivered an RBI hit to make it 3-0. Roberts ripped a two-run single in the seventh for the final margin.
Jason Heyward broke up the no-hitter with an opposite-field, two-out single in the seventh. Dan Uggla drew the only two walks issued by Hammel.
Braves leadoff hitter Michael Bourn saw his 14-game hitting streak end in an 0-for-4 night.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Braves 1B Freddie Freeman missed his third straight start due to swelling in his left index finger. … Braves 3B Chipper Jones also did not start due to a buildup of fluid in his left knee. … Roberts will get the day off Sunday, with Robert Andino expected to start at second base.
