Nyjer Morgan drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift the Milwaukee Brewers into the National League Championship Series with a 3-2 victory over the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks in Game 5 of the Division Series on Friday.

Yuniesky Betancourt and Jerry Hairston Jr. each drove in runs for the Brewers, who will play either the Philadelphia Phillies or the St. Louis Cardinals in the NLCS starting on Sunday.

Closer J.J. Putz (0-1) came on for the Diamondbacks in the 10th and gave up a one-out single to Carlos Gomez, who stole second.

Morgan worked the count to 3-1 before lifting a single to center. The throw from Chris Young was high, allowing Gomez to score the winning run easily.

The Diamondbacks had tied it at 2-2 in the ninth, when Willie Bloomquist laid down a perfect safety squeeze. That marked John Axford’s first blown save since April 18.

Axford (1-0) got the win with a perfect 10th inning.

The Brewers had taken the lead in the sixth, putting runners on first and second with no outs. Arizona starter Ian Kennedy looked like he would get out of the jam after Rickie Weeks popped out on a bunt attempt and Young ensured himself a place on the highlight reel with an over-the-shoulder catch on Hairston’s drive to the center-field wall.

But Betancourt followed by lining a single to center that scored Ryan Braun from second to put Milwaukee on top 2-1.
