Carlos Gonzalez homered twice and had four RBIs to lead the Colorado Rockies to a 12-4 victory over the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday in the first game of a day-night doubleheader.
Dexter Fowler, Seth Smith and Troy Tulowitzki drove in two runs apiece as the Rockies halted a three-game losing skid while ending the Diamondbacks’ six-game winning streak.
Gonzalez and Smith hit solo homers in the fourth inning for Colorado’s first two runs as the Rockies rallied from a 3-0 deficit. Gonzalez capped the scoring with a two-run homer during the Rockies’ five-run seventh.
The Rockies scored three times in the fifth to take the lead for good. Tulowitzki drew a bases-loaded walk from Josh Collmenter (3-1) to tie the score before Colorado went ahead on Todd Helton’s sacrifice fly. Smith doubled in the inning’s final run.
Fowler hit a two-run triple in the seventh prior to Gonzalez’s homer.
Greg Reynolds (2-0) gave up one run and three hits in 3 2/3 innings of relief of starter Jorge De La Rosa, who left with elbow soreness with one out in the third inning.
Melvin Mora and Xavier Nady each had two RBIs for Arizona.
