Ben Zobrist stayed hot with three hits, three runs scored and two RBIs as the visiting Tampa Bay Rays finished a doubleheader sweep of the Minnesota Twins with a 6-1 victory in the second game on Thursday night.
Jeff Niemann (1-3) earned the victory, allowing one run and two hits over seven innings. Niemann did not give up a hit in the first six innings for the Rays (14-11), who have won five straight games.
John Jaso had two hits and two RBIs while Casey Kotchman added two hits and Sean Rodriguez two RBIs for Tampa Bay.
Twins starter Anthony Swarzak (0-1), who was recalled from Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday, allowed five runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings. Justin Morneau had an RBI single for Minnesota (9-15).
Zobrist had a team-record eight RBIs in the first game of the doubleheader and now has 18 RBIs in five games. He also hit a two-run homer in the second inning to start the scoring in the nightcap. Jaso homered in the fourth and hit an RBI double in the sixth as the Rays built a 5-0 lead.
Johnny Damon singled in the third inning to extend his hitting streak to 16 games for the Rays.
