Michael Young and Elvis Andrus combined for six runs and five RBIs as the Texas Rangers beat the visiting Oakland Athletics for the ninth straight time 13-4 on Friday.
Colby Lewis snapped a four-start winless streak and Ian Kinsler added two hits and scored three runs for the Rangers.
Texas remained 2 1/2 games ahead of Los Angeles in the American League West. The Angels defeated the Yankees 2-1 on Friday.
Lewis (12-10), who leads the AL in home runs allowed, surrendered his 33rd in the first to Josh Willingham to put the Rangers in an early 2-0 hole. But the righthander didn't allowed a runner past first base over the next five innings.
Texas evened it with two runs in the first and took the lead with two more in the fifth, highlighted by Andrus’s double to the wall in straightaway center that made it over Coco Crisp’s head and scored Kinsler from first.
The Rangers pushed four across in the seventh with four RBI singles and tacked on five more on in the eighth. Young drove in runs in both innings, including a two-run double in the eighth.
Brandon McCarthy (8-8) suffered the loss for Oakland.
