All-Star Jered Weaver tossed six-plus strong innings for his sixth straight victory, and Bobby Abreu had a pair of RBI singles as the Los Angeles Angels posted a 4-2 road win over the Oakland Athletics in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday.
Erick Aybar belted a solo homer in the seventh inning, and Vernon Wells scored on an RBI groundout for Los Angeles, which has won 15 of its last 19 games.
Weaver (12-4), who started for the American League in Tuesday night's game, allowed two runs on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings to secure the victory. He has allowed just six total runs during his six-game winning streak.
Scott Downs bridged the gap to All-Star Jordan Walden, who retired the side in the ninth for his 21st save.
Rookie Jemile Weeks had three hits - including an RBI single in the seventh - for Oakland, which has dropped 14 of its last 20 contests.
Trevor Cahill (8-8) yielded three runs on five hits in seven innings to suffer his third straight loss and eighth in 10 decisions.
The regularly scheduled twinbill was the first of its kind since 2003. Both teams had to agree to the doubleheader prior to the league releasing the schedule.
