Jered Weaver allowed six hits and one run in a complete-game effort as the Los Angeles Angels defeated the visiting Seattle Mariners 5-1 on Thursday night.
Weaver (11-4), who has won five straight decisions, struck out six and walked one. He has eight career complete games – four this season.
The Angels scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning. Bobby Abreu tied the game 1-1 with a single, knocking in the 1,300th run of his career. Vernon Wells followed with a sacrifice fly and Howie Kendrick belted an RBI double, extending his hitting streak to 16 games.
Peter Bourjos added three hits and an RBI for the Angels, who are 8-2 on their season-high 13-game homestand.
Brendan Ryan had two hits, including an RBI double to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning. It was Ryan’s first RBI since May 26. Seattle has scored just eight runs in seven July games.
Mariners starter Doug Fister (3-10) allowed seven hits and three runs over six innings. Fister has won just once since April 30 despite sporting a 3.09 ERA overall.
