Mitch Moreland drove in the go-ahead run with a seventh-inning double, and the Texas Rangers stayed unbeaten with a 7-3 victory over the visiting Seattle Mariners on Wednesday.
Moreland’s one-out double down the first-base line scored David Murphy from second base, as the Rangers improved to 6-0 by completing a three-game sweep of the Mariners.
C.J. Wilson (1-0) gave up three runs – two earned – and six hits in seven innings while defeating reigning Cy Young Award winner Felix Hernandez (1-1). The right-hander gave up four runs – two earned – and six hits in seven innings. He struck out six and walked three.
Texas scored three runs in the second with help from two errors by Seattle second baseman Jack Wilson. The Rangers loaded the bases with one out when Wilson dropped a throw from shortstop Brendan Ryan on a potential inning-ending double-play ball. Elvis Andrus followed with a force-out grounder that scored one run, with a second scoring when Wilson made an errant throw to first base.
The Mariners (2-4) moved within 3-2 in the fifth on Michael Saunders’ infield out and tied the score in the sixth when Milton Bradley doubled and scored on Jack Cust’s single.
Texas broke the game open in the eighth with three runs, two scoring on Nelson Cruz’s double to right-center field.
