Cody Ross broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the ninth with a walk-off single and the San Francisco Giants beat the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks 1-0 Tuesday.
David Hernandez (2-1) walked Buster Posey to lead off the ninth inning, and pinch runner Darren Ford promptly stole second base. Ford scored easily on Ross’ single to left.
Brian Wilson (3-1) earned the win after pitching a scoreless top of the ninth.
Before the late-inning drama, Tim Lincecum and Ian Kennedy put on a dazzling pitchers’ duel for eight innings at AT&T Park.
Lincecum gave up four hits with two walks while striking out nine on 114 pitches. Kennedy singled with one out in the sixth to break up Lincecum’s no-hitter.
Kennedy threw 116 pitches and gave up four hits with three walks while striking out eight. Kennedy retired 12 consecutive batters before Freddy Sanchez singled in the eighth inning.
The Giants had the bases loaded with one out in the fourth inning, but Mark DeRosa ended the threat by grounding into a double play.
