Pablo Sandoval hit a three-run homer and Matt Cain pitched six-plus strong innings as the visiting San Francisco Giants beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-2 in the opener of a three-game set Friday night.
Miguel Tejada added an RBI double and Freddy Sanchez had two hits for the Giants, who have won three straight and six of eight.
San Francisco jumped on Daniel Hudson (0-3) in the first inning, putting two runners on with a pair of singles before Sandoval came up with two outs and belted his third homer of the season to deep right-center.
That was plenty of support for Cain (2-0), who was charged with one run and four hits while striking out three and walking a pair. His lone run came in the seventh when Ramon Ramirez allowed an inherited runner to score.
The Giants tacked on single runs in the fourth and fifth against Hudson, who struck out 10 in six innings. The Diamondbacks have given Hudson a total of three runs of support in three starts.
