Jamey Carroll singled in the go-ahead run in the top of the 11th and Matt Kemp homered twice as part of a three-hit afternoon as the Los Angeles Dodgers completed a comeback from a five-run deficit to down the host Cincinnati Reds, 11-8, on Saturday.
Kemp provided most of the runs in the comeback on one swing, belting a grand slam in the eighth inning to knot the score 7-7 and send the game to extra innings. Kemp, who also had a solo blast in the seventh, moved into sole possession of second place in the NL with 15 homers. His six RBIs tied Cincinnati’s Jay Bruce for the NL lead at 46.
Carlos Fisher (0-3) came on for the Reds in the top of the 11th and put runners on the corners with one out. Carroll followed with a single to center, plating Castro with the go-ahead run and sparking a four-run rally.
Rookie righthander Javy Guerra (1-0) earned his first major league win for Los Angeles.
The Reds held a 7-2 lead into the eighth when manager Dusty Baker decided to go to his bullpen. Three relievers combined to allow five runs in the inning, with Logan Ondrusek coming on and surrendering Kemp’s grand slam.
